Two Public Holidays on the Same Day – What Do You Do?
What happens when 2 public holidays fall on the same day? Do you get 2 holidays or just one? Let’s take a look at what it means to you.
According to the Malaysian Employment Act 1955, section 60D, if any public holiday that is recognized by the Company falls on a rest day or any other recognized public holiday then the following working day after that rest day or the other public holiday must be treated as a paid holiday.
Let’s look at an example below:
In 2024, on September 16 (Monday) there were 2 public holidays.
- Malaysia Day
- Maulidur Rasul
In this case, the Company can observe a replacement public holiday on September 17 (Tuesday). That means the employee will get 2 paid public holidays.
However, this is only applicable to the private sector and if both holidays are recognized by the Company.
It does not happen often but if it does, now you know how to manage it.
